Abstract:   With looming deadlines and ever increasing workloads, the workstations that we rely on are running all day and night. As code and model complexity increases, adding yet another workstation is both the easiest and least productive solution.
High Performance Computing provides a pathway through a field of ever increasing complexity. When done well, it scales according to the size of our science, easily adapts to a changing environment and opens the door to a new tempo in development cycles we could not hope to achieve with workstations.
During this presentation, I will examine the basic building blocks of HPC, review the technical components, how HPC was tied in with our existing infrastructure, the cultural changes that HPC required and what was needed to take this step.
