Abstract:   This talk will present the concept of the PGAS programming model and its different implementations in programming languages (e.g. Chapel), language extensions (e.g. UPC) and libraries (e.g. OpenSHMEM), highlighting recent developments and advances. We will discuss if PGAS languages are becoming a viable alternative to the mainstream parallel programming models, and outline where they succeed or fall short. Some practical experiences will be presented to illustrate the discussion.
