With all the advances in massively parallel and multi-core computing with CPUs and accelerators it is often overlooked whether the computational work is being done in an efficient manner. This presentation investigates whether power savings on the processor and system level can be obtained while a parallel application is waiting for incoming data. The author has written a novel approach for efficient MPI parallel communication, which can particularly be of big value for large supercomputing facilities holding 1,000s of compute cores.
