Abstract:   Over the years many smart people have perfected the art of moving air around data centers for maximum efficiency. There are a number of techniques to choose from, including hot and cold aisles, using sensors to monitor conditions, and bringing in cold outdoor air for cooling. Pumping liquid into an expensive server rack may feel risky, but the fact remains, air is not enough.  Considering the evolution of liquid cooling technology over the last few years, combined with the industry's demands to increase processing power, density and efficiency, one might say that liquid cooling is taking the world by storm.
CoolIT’s rack-based liquid cooling technology is scalable and flexible allowing it to meet even the most aggressive density, efficiency and performance requirements in HPC, Cloud and Enterprise markets. The RACK DCLC™ product range supports ultra-high density data center designs with blade and other multinode chassis servers.
A great example of what CoolIT's Rack DCLC AHx (Air Heat Exchange) platform can deliver is Intel’s Cherry Creek cluster shown at SC13.  The system was the first supercomputer ever displayed on a show floor and ranked #400 on the Top 500 list and a remarkable #41 on the Green 500 list. The feat was accomplished with a two-rack 131 Tflop cluster that consumed only 74kW thanks to the efficiency of direct contact liquid cooling. The TCO implications of such a cluster are meaningful to today’s IT managers as the market continues to drive towards a 'do more with less' mentality.
Like the AHx,  CoolIT’s CHx (Coolant Heat Exchange) configuration also delivers power savings, increased rack density and high performance.  Due to the increased cooling efficiency of using liquid to liquid heat exchange, the CHx ranks even higher in all three categories.  The use of up to 50°C facility water maximizes TCO and minimizes the need for CRAC's and chillers.  With two system options, low capacity (1-6 racks) and high capacity (7+ racks), CoolIT's Rack DCLC™ CHx can be adapted to any specific requirements.
By using direct contact liquid cooling (DCLC™) the dependence on expensive air conditioning and air handling systems is drastically reduced. This enables more servers per rack, low power use and access to significantly higher performance potential. RACK DCLC™ integration translates into an effective and scalable cooling strategy that delivers a better bottom line.
