Abstract:   We present the architecture of Vistle, an open source scientific visualisaton system geared towards immersive virtual environments. Vistle implements the visualisation pipeline in a modular multiprocess architecture on clusters of hybrid shared and distributed memory parallel computers. We aim to reach performance portability across multi- and many-core systems by mapping visualisation algorithms to the Thrust framework. Remote hybrid rendering, a technique for decoupling user interaction from remote rendering latency, is an integral part of Vistle.
