Abstract:   Modern particle physics experiments are only possible because of massive use of computers. In this talk I will highlight the role of computing in the online processing of detector data, and show how we work with a raw data-rate of many Terabits/s, how we find rare events in this mass of data and how we exploit the continuing progress in the IT industry. I will also highlight a few commonalities and differences to classical HPC.
