Dr. Mauricio Araya

Senior Researcher Computer Science, Shell International Exploration & Production

Mauricio Araya obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from INRIA Sophia-Antipolis, France. After that he spent 4 years working at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) for the well-known Kaleidoscope project (funded by Repsol). This project have received many international awards, for instance, the "Energy Company of the Year" award by the Petroleum Economist Magazine in September 2009 and the IEEE Spectrum Emerging Technology Award of 2008 . Later, Mauricio worked for Repsol USA in projects involving HPC for subsurface imaging, advance 3D visualization and interpretation tools. Currently, he works at Shell, where his research is focused on advanced algorithms for different topics of modeling and computation.
