Prof. Dr. Mateo Valero

Director, Barcelona Supercomputing Center

Mateo Valero has been a full professor in the Computer Architecture Department, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), since 1983.Since May 2004, he is the director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (the National Center of Supercomputing in Spain).
His research topics are centred in the area of high-performance computer architectures. He has published approximately 600 papers, has served in the organization of more than 300 international conferences.
His research has been recognized with several awards. Among them, the Eckert-Mauchly Award, Harry Goode Award, the "King Jaime I" in research and two National Awards on Informatics and on Engineering. He has been named Honorary Doctorate by the Universities of Chalmers, Belgrade, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Zaragoza in Spain and the University of Veracruz in Mexico.
He is a fellow of the IEEE and the ACM and Intel Distinguished Research Fellow. He is a correspondant academic of the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences, and member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Engineering, the Royal Academy of Science and Arts and of the Academia Europaea.
