Dr. Paul Batten

Principal Scientist, Metacomp Technologies

Dr. Paul Batten has many years of experience in the numerical and physical modeling of fluid dynamics, turbulence and acoustics. He received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from Southampton University, England, before taking up a position at the Manchester Metropolitan University, where, as a Senior Research Scientist, he worked on the modeling of blast waves and flow-induced resonance. In 1995, Dr. Batten joined UMIST's department of Mechanical Engineering as Research Associate and Honorary Lecturer working on a British Aerospace-funded project to develop anisotropic turbulence closures for high-speed jet exhaust and afterbody flows. In 1999, Dr. Batten joined Metacomp Technologies, Inc. As a Principal Scientist at Metacomp, he has been developing modeling practices for unsteady flows and acoustics and is spearheading the development of the acoustics software suite, CAA++ along with major contributions to the development of CFD++, including turbulence modeling, large eddy simulation and numerical methods. Dr. Batten was the originator of the 'LNS' approach, which represented the first commercial implementation of a hybrid RANS/LES method. Dr. Batten acts as a reviewer for a number of international scientific journals and was co-author of a paper which won the Royal Aeronautical Society Busk prize in 1998. He has more than 60 refereed publications in the form of journal and conference proceedings.
