Adalio T. Sanchez

General Manager, IBM x86 & PureSystems Solutions, IBM

Adalio Sanchez is General Manager of IBM’s x86 / Pure Systems Solutions server unit. In this role, Mr. Sanchez is responsible for all facets of IBM's multi-billion dollar x86 server business including product development, marketing, sales, operations, and overall financial performance. He is also a member of the IBM Performance Team, a group of the company's highest senior executive officers.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Sanchez was General Manager of IBM Microelectronics and was responsible for the operational and financial performance of IBM’s semiconductor and engineering services operations.
Mr. Sanchez has more than 30 years of experience in the Information Technology marketplace with an extensive background in product development, manufacturing, operations, and brand management. Before his position as the head of IBM Microelectronics, Mr. Sanchez was General Manager of the IBM’s UNIX server business. Over a four year period, he turned around the business, and drove IBM to become the worldwide share leader in the largest segment of server marketplace at that time.
Mr. Sanchez also served as General Manager of the Storage Networking Division, and prior to that as General Manger of Manufacturing Operations and Business Transformation for the IBM Personal Systems Group. In this role, Mr. Sanchez served as the chief operating officer of IBM’s PC business and managed all IT and supply chain operations globally. During his tenure, he significantly restructured manufacturing operations, and improved profits and overall customer satisfaction.
Previous IBM positions for Mr. Sanchez include General Manager of IBM’s Mobile Computing unit, which developed, manufactured, and marketed the highly successful IBM ThinkPad line of notebook computers worldwide; Vice President of Mobile Computing Development; Director of IBM North America PC Manufacturing and Distribution Operations; Director of Worldwide Mobile Manufacturing; Director of Supply Management; and a variety of other management positions. Mr. Sanchez began his career with IBM in 1982 as a development engineer on IBM’s second personal computer system at IBM's Boca Raton site.
Mr. Sanchez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Miami and a Masters of Business Administration from Florida International University. He was named the 2007 US Hispanic Engineer of the Year, and has frequently been named to the list of the Top 50 Hispanics in Technology and Business. He is a member of the Florida International University (FIU) Foundation Board of Directors, Chairman of the FIU College of Engineering and Computing Executive Advisory Council, and serves as Chairman of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Advisory Board.
